Marta Reynal was awarded the Prize Jaume I in Economics in the 2022 Call. This is the most important prize for an economist working in Spain. The jury point out that the Prize is awarded to her “for his contributions to the determinants of war conflicts, political economy and economic development using methodologies based on historical experiences and “big data”. His recent research addresses the importance of the human capital of the first colonizers of Latin America and their original institutions in explaining economic development. His second major line of research currently is the analysis of development, conflicts and inequality using machine learning techniques.” Marta Reynal-Querol was also awarded the X Banco Herrero Prize (2011) for the best Social Scientist under 40 years old.
